Fifty of the more than 300 children abducted from a Catholic school in Niger State have regained their freedom, slipping out of the maze of captivity and returning to the arms of their families.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, lifting spirits across communities that have waited in anguish for days.
“We have received some good news as fifty pupils escaped and have reunited with their parents,” CAN said, noting that the children broke away from their captors in two waves between Friday and Saturday.
The association described the escape as a fragile but vital spark of hope in a crisis that remains far from over, urging authorities to intensify search and rescue operations for the hundreds still missing.
