Malawi Vice President Killed In Aircraft Crash

The president of Malawi announced on Tuesday that Saulos Chilima, the vice president of the country, had perished in an aircraft crash. The wreckage of the aircraft was discovered in a foggy forest.

Due to poor weather, the military aircraft carrying Chilima, and nine other people was unable to land in the northern city of Mzuzu and was instructed to return to the capital, Lilongwe. The jet vanished on Monday.

“The aeroplane has been located by the search and rescue crew. Addressing the nation, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi stated, “completely destroyed with no survivors, as all passengers on board were killed on impact.”

Searchers combed through a misted area south of Mzuzu on Tuesday after the police discovered the final tower the plane communicated with before to its disappearance.

Helicopters and drones were used to assist the search operation, according to earlier statements made by army chief General Paul Valentino Phiri, who also mentioned that neighbouring countries of Malawi had also been involved.

About 370 kilometres (230 miles) away in Mzuzu, the group left Lilongwe on Monday just after 9:00 am (0700 GMT) to attend the burial of a former cabinet minister. On board was Shanil Dzimbiri, the former first lady of Malawi.
