A bandit raid in Katsina State on Sunday at around 3 p.m. claimed the lives of no fewer than 26 persons. Gidan Boka village, Kankara LGA, was the scene of the attack.
In a statement released on Tuesday 11th June, Abubakar Aliyu, the public relations officer for the Katsina State Police Command, claimed that bandits with lethal weapons had invaded Gidan Boka village, murdering twenty residents and wounding two more. The statement further stated that a police patrol unit in an armoured personnel carrier (APC) was ambushed by bandits near Kurmeji village via Yar Goje while responding to a distress call.
The statement also stated, “Among the deceased security personnel are two Katsina Community Watch Corps members, one corporal, and three police inspectors.”
The patrol squad was originally sent to Gidan Baki village, but Sadiq revealed that the real destination was Gidan Boka village.
As a result, they had to change their route, and when they arrived at Kurmeji village, they were ambushed, which led to a gunfight.
Five more persons are said to have been slain by the bandits as they fled via Dan Nakwabo village.
Musa Aliyu, the state commissioner of police, offered his sympathies to the victims’ families and promised to collaborate with the appropriate parties to find the criminals.
In order to stop more attacks, he verified that more operational assets had been sent to the region.
