The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), on Thursday inducted 95 graduating students of faculty of nursing sciences, Afe Babalola University, (ABUAD), into nursing profession.
Speaking at the 9th Induction ceremony, NMCN registrar, Dr Farouk Abubakar, represented by Yahaya Sumi urged the inductees to explore new opportunities in the profession and be good ambassadors of their chosen career.
“I encourage you to be learn from your senior colleagues. Be good ambassadors of Nursing profession and explore new opportunities”. He said
On his part, the founder of the University, Aare Afe Babalola said the institution is grooming its graduates to become reformers that will take the country to its promise land.
The legal luminary added that graduates of the institution are agents of change, who have been equipped with necessary weapons to change the global world.
He said, “Since our maiden convocation on Sunday October, 2013, we have turned out 1,420 graduates. They are not only doing well, but they are also agents and leaders of reformation.
“We are the change that will change the world. We are breeding a new generation of leaders who will change the world for the better.
“I encourage you to always remember the wordings of the University anthem, particularly as it has to do with determination, industry, philanthropy and character. With all of these in place, we are on the path to changing the country for the better”.
In her lecture themed: “Future of Nursing: The Use of Artificial Intelligence”, Professor Christianah Sowunmi underscored the significant roles of AI in nursing profession, saying it will make work easier for the practitioners.
She added that the evolution of artificial intelligence is not meant to chase manpower from the market, saying “AI is not here to take people’s jobs. Human expert is going to be there because it needs proper monitoring”.
Other high points of the ceremony were presentation of awards and prizes to outstanding students, who have been extraordinary in their academic adventure.
Oriwoh Osamudiamen emerged as best graduating student while Akerele Alice was awarded best student in Registered Nursing and Registered Midwifery Examinations(RN & RM), alongside Famoroti Oluwaseun as best student leader.
