Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 70-year-old man, Okon Akpan, and three others over alleged attempted murder and cult-related activities in Uruk Anam Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Timfon John said the suspects—John Samson, Emmanuel Asuquo and Idorenyin Umoh—were apprehended on March 20, 2026, at Ikot Asukpong Village following credible intelligence.
She noted that the operation was launched after authorities approved a petition alleging attempted murder, malicious damage and cultism.
During the raid, officers recovered a locally fabricated pistol and two long guns, reinforcing suspicions of the group’s involvement in violent crimes.
The command said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspected gang, adding that the area remains calm under enhanced security surveillance.
Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to provide timely information to support crime-fighting efforts.
