2027: Labour Party Announces Presidential Primary Date

The Labour Party has scheduled May 23 for its presidential primary as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

This was disclosed in Abuja on Wednesday by the party’s media aide, Ken Asogwa, following a National Executive Council meeting observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to him, other primaries for governorship, National Assembly and state assemblies will hold on May 15, while April 15 has been fixed for submission of the party’s membership register to INEC.

The party also approved its congress timetable, with ward, local government and state congresses slated for March 26, March 28 and March 31 respectively, while the national convention is set for April 11.

NEC reviewed internal developments, including a recent attack on the party secretariat, and ratified disciplinary actions against some members over alleged anti-party activities.

The council further endorsed a hybrid membership registration system combining digital and manual processes to boost transparency and participation.

It also backed the leadership of Nenadi Usman as Interim National Chairman, following a Federal High Court ruling, and passed a vote of confidence in key stakeholders including Alex Otti.
