The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into the reported death of a socialite identified online as “Elena,” who allegedly died after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure at a clinic in the state.
The probe is being conducted by the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), the regulatory body responsible for monitoring and accrediting health facilities in Lagos.
In a statement on Thursday, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Abiola Idowu, said the investigation followed social media reports that the woman developed complications during or shortly after the cosmetic surgery.

Preliminary findings indicate that the clinic involved is registered with HEFAMAA, but the agency stressed that registration does not exempt any facility from investigation when patient safety concerns arise.
HEFAMAA said it has begun a comprehensive review to determine whether the clinic and medical personnel complied with regulatory standards governing cosmetic procedures in Lagos.
The government also urged residents to seek aesthetic procedures only from accredited health facilities and qualified medical practitioners while the investigation continues.
