Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is facing fresh scrutiny after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) reportedly recovered suspected wiretapping equipment linked to him.
Sources familiar with the investigation disclosed that the anti-graft agency obtained a court warrant permitting the detention of the former governor for 14 days. The order is intended to allow investigators conduct further questioning and carry out forensic analysis on the recovered devices.
Officials said the detention approval forms part of an ongoing probe into alleged unauthorized surveillance activities. The warrant reportedly enables the commission to thoroughly examine the equipment and determine whether any laws were breached.

Legal experts note that Nigerian law allows security and investigative agencies to seek extended detention through court authorization in cases involving complex investigations or sensitive materials.
There are also claims that El-Rufai was not fully cooperative during preliminary questioning. However, his legal team has yet to issue an official response addressing the allegations or the reported detention order.
As of press time, there has been no formal public confirmation from the former governor’s representatives regarding the claims.
