INEC Records 1.2m New Voter Registrations in Phase II of CVR

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a significant rise in voter registrations under the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, with over 1.2 million Nigerians completing the process in Phase II as of February 13, 2026.

In an update shared via its official X handle, the commission disclosed that 1,228,648 eligible citizens had fully registered by Week Six of Phase II — a sharp increase from the 884,737 recorded at the end of Week Five.

Of the total figure, 673,124 applicants initiated their registration through the online pre-registration portal, while 555,524 completed the process physically at designated centres nationwide.

State-by-state data shows Jigawa leading with 98,698 registrants (8.03 per cent), followed by Lagos (86,307), Sokoto (77,004) and Kano (71,990).

INEC further revealed that women account for 696,891 registrants (57 per cent), compared to 531,757 men (43 per cent). Youths aged 18–34 dominate the exercise with 848,066 registrations (69.02 per cent), while 19,414 persons with disabilities have also registered nationwide.

The CVR remains suspended in the Federal Capital Territory in compliance with the Electoral Act due to the February 21, 2026 Area Council elections.

Phase II commenced on January 5, 2026, and is expected to continue until April. It builds on Phase I, conducted between August and December 2025, which added approximately 2.78 million new voters to the national register.
