A fresh fire outbreak on Saturday evening engulfed the popular Singa Market in Kano, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The blaze reportedly started at a large provision store in the Gidan Gashash area before spreading to other sections of the market, drawing crowds of concerned residents.
Confirming the incident, the Kano State Fire Service said personnel and vehicles had been deployed to contain the fire. The agency, however, noted that poor access roads and heavy human and vehicular movement were hampering response efforts. The cause of the fire had yet to be determined as of press time.
The incident comes weeks after a February 2 inferno destroyed three major stores in the market. During a sympathy visit, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf donated N100 million to affected traders.
