NDLEA Seizes 64 Bags of Cannabis Concealed in Dangote Cement Trailer

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Strategic Command, has intercepted 64 bags of cannabis sativa concealed inside a cement-laden trailer along the Kano–Zaria Road.

In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Maigatari, said the seizure was made on February 2, 2026, by operatives of the Kiru Area Command following intelligence-led surveillance.

The trailer, loaded with cement from Obajana in Kogi State and heading to Mubi, Adamawa State, was stopped on the Zaria–Kano axis. The driver was arrested and remains in NDLEA custody.

Kano State Commander, D.Y. Lawal, said the drugs were hidden within legitimate cargo and were suspected to be intended for distribution in Kano ahead of Ramadan. He described the operation as a product of meticulous intelligence work.

Lawal added that the command would intensify patrols and sustain intelligence-driven operations in line with directives from NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa.

The agency said investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the trafficking network, warning that all those involved would face prosecution.
