A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has convicted Kannywood actress Saadatu Mohammed Inuwa, popularly known as Samha, for mutilating the Nigerian currency.
Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice S.M. Shuaibu sentenced the actress to six months’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦200,000 fine after she pleaded guilty to tampering with a ₦1,000 note.
The conviction followed her arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on a one-count charge bordering on currency abuse, contrary to Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

According to the charge, Inuwa tampered with a ₦1,000 note in 2022 by soiling it with her nose within the court’s jurisdiction.
Upon her guilty plea, prosecution counsel Musa Isah urged the court to convict and sentence her. The defence appealed for leniency, noting that she was a first-time offender who had shown remorse.
Justice Shuaibu subsequently imposed the jail term with a fine option, reinforcing ongoing enforcement against naira mutilation.
