
Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu, has signed the ₦758.7 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, pledging immediate implementation to accelerate development across the state.
The budget, tagged “Budget of Socio-Economic Expansion,” prioritises infrastructure development, improved service delivery, and enhanced living standards for residents.
Speaking after assenting to the bill on Friday, Governor Aliyu commended the Sokoto State House of Assembly for its swift passage and assured citizens that execution of projects and programmes would begin without delay.
According to him, 41 per cent of the budget is allocated to the economic sector, 37 per cent to the social sector, while ₦122.73 billion (16 per cent) is devoted to health. Key health projects include the completion of the Sokoto State University Teaching Hospital, Kasarawa, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, and the upgrade of general hospitals in Binji, Tambuwal, and Sabon Birni, alongside the procurement of 21 ambulances.
The education sector received ₦115.95 billion for school rehabilitation, improved learning conditions, and tertiary infrastructure expansion, while ₦18.74 billion was earmarked for agriculture to enhance food production and security.
Governor Aliyu noted that 72 per cent of the budget is for capital expenditure, with 28 per cent for recurrent spending, adding that all projects under his administration have been financed without borrowing, keeping Sokoto State debt-free.
Speaker of the House, Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, described the budget as people-focused and pledged legislative oversight to ensure effective implementation.
