NDLEA Nabs Brazilian Woman With N3bn Heroin at Abuja Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 30-year-old Brazilian woman, Ingrid Benevides, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with 30.09kg of heroin concealed in factory-sealed coffee packs valued at over N3 billion.

The suspect was intercepted on January 23, 2026, after arriving aboard Qatar Airways flight QR1431, following intelligence-led surveillance. NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said the drugs were discovered in 21 sealed coffee packs, marking the largest heroin seizure ever recorded at the Abuja airport.

In separate operations, NDLEA operatives arrested two passengers at MMIA Lagos with 3,990 pills of tramadol and tapentadol bound for Turkey, intercepted 1,848kg of Ghana Loud cannabis at Jakande Beach, Lekki, and recovered 140 packets of explosives along the Kaduna–Zaria highway.

The agency said the arrests underscore sustained efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks nationwide.
