A United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has praised the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United States for establishing a US–Nigeria Working Group to strengthen security cooperation and protect religious freedom.
Moore described the initiative as a necessary step toward addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, particularly violent terrorism in the northern states and the Middle Belt. He said the partnership offers Nigeria a “once-in-a-lifetime chance” to deepen ties with the US while combating terrorism and ending the persecution of Christians.
According to him, the agreement signals Nigeria’s commitment to improving security and positions the country as a stabilising force in the region. Moore added that both nations had pledged to ensure freedom of worship and protect citizens from persecution.
His comments followed the Federal Government’s announcement of enhanced security collaboration with the US after a plenary session of the Nigeria–US Joint Working Group held in Abuja.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the engagement reflects sustained efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and has already translated into operational gains on the ground.
