
The University of Lagos Faculty of Engineering has inducted 508 graduates into the engineering profession during its annual induction and hooding ceremony held on Monday at the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Lagos Branch Secretariat.
The event formed part of UNILAG’s ongoing 56th Convocation Ceremonies, formally ushering the graduates from 10 departments into professional practice.
Of those inducted, Electrical and Electronics Engineering produced the highest number with 97 graduates, followed by Civil and Environmental Engineering (78), Mechanical Engineering (67), Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (60), and Chemical Engineering (59. Others included Systems Engineering (41), Surveying and Geoinformatics (49), Computer Engineering (34), Biomedical Engineering (19), and Petroleum and Gas Engineering (4).
Speaking at the ceremony, the Dean of Engineering, Prof. Samson Adeosun, described the induction as the graduates’ “formal entry into industry,” urging them to remain adaptable and committed to national development.
The induction address was delivered by Schneider Electric West Africa President, Ajibola Akindele, represented by Channel Sales Director Nurudeen Oyedeji, who called on the graduates to support Nigeria’s development needs, particularly in the energy sector.
The faculty also recognised academic excellence, with Mekwunye Clinton (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering) and Olubunmi Peace (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) emerging as Best Graduating Students, each with a CGPA of 4.90.
