Just In: Rivers Assembly Begins Impeachment Push Against Governor Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has begun formal steps to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, setting in motion a political storm that could reshape the state’s leadership.

Led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, the House abruptly altered its earlier plan to resume plenary on January 26, opting instead for an emergency sitting on Thursday. The decision was conveyed in an internal memo signed by the Clerk of the House, Emeka Amadi, and circulated to all members.

During the session, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, formally presented a notice of allegations and claims of gross misconduct against the governor. The document, endorsed by 26 lawmakers, was described by its sponsors as being in line with constitutional provisions. Speaker Amaewhule announced that the notice would be served on Governor Fubara within seven days.

In a parallel move, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, read a similar notice against Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, widening the scope of the unfolding impeachment process.

The developments mark a decisive turn in Rivers State politics, as the Assembly signals its readiness to test the limits of executive accountability.
