Anthony Joshua Survives Lagos–Ibadan Expressway Crash

World heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua on Monday survived a road accident along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, narrowly escaping death in the Makun area of Ogun State.

The crash occurred at about 11:00 a.m., near Danco Filling Station, inward the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan axis of the expressway. Joshua was travelling in a Lexus SUV, reportedly part of a two-vehicle convoy, when the car collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that remain unclear.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that the Lexus, which carried four occupants including the boxer, struck the truck while a Pajero SUV conveying his security detail followed behind. Joshua, who was seated behind the driver, was said to have sustained minor injuries. Two other occupants of the vehicle reportedly died at the scene.

“It was a serious crash,” an eyewitness said. “We immediately moved in to help, flagged down vehicles, and tried to rescue the victims before FRSC officials arrived.”

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) later took control of the scene, evacuating victims and managing traffic.

Confirming the incident, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, alongside FRSC spokesperson Afolabi Odunsi, said investigations were ongoing and that more details would be released in due course.
