The Chinese Consul General in Lagos, Ms Yan Yuqing, says China and Nigeria recorded significant political, economic and people-to-people achievements in 2025, positioning both countries for expanded cooperation in 2026.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Yan described bilateral ties as a “solid bridge” of shared development, anchored on the BRIDGE framework covering bilateral relations, investment, development and exchanges.
She said high-level engagements, including the January visit of China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, and the implementation of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) outcomes, strengthened political trust between both countries.
Yan disclosed that bilateral trade exceeded $22.3 billion between January and October 2025, a 30.2 per cent increase, while Nigerian agricultural products gained wider access to the Chinese market. She added that the Lekki Deep Sea Port recorded over 520,000 TEUs in 2025.
Looking ahead to 2026 — the 55th anniversary of China–Nigeria diplomatic relations — Yan said China is ready to deepen cooperation with Nigeria in emerging sectors such as new energy, the digital economy and the blue economy, while strengthening people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
