The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that no casualties or deaths were recorded after a train collided with a commercial Toyota Hiace bus at Arena, Oshodi, on Monday night.
The agency disclosed this in a preliminary incident report dated December 23, 2025, and signed by its Permanent Secretary, Mr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
According to LASEMA, the incident occurred around 7:53pm, prompting distress calls to its 767/112 toll-free emergency lines. Emergency responders were immediately deployed from the agency’s Cappa Base in Oshodi under the state’s emergency response plan.
LASEMA said its response team arrived at the scene by 8:11pm and confirmed that a train had collided with a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number AGL-671-XR.
Preliminary investigations revealed that reckless driving by the bus driver led to the accident. The agency explained that the bus was being driven outside the Arena Shopping Complex when it was struck by an oncoming train, leaving the vehicle trapped on the rail tracks.
“Fortunately, no casualty nor mortality was recorded as a result of the incident,” the agency said, noting that the impact nevertheless caused extensive damage to the bus.
Following the collision, LASEMA officials carried out a comprehensive risk assessment at the scene and implemented safety and control measures to prevent secondary incidents. Train operations were also temporarily suspended to allow for the safe evacuation of the bus.
“The agency passed urgent information to the railway station to stop train operations pending the evacuation of the accidental bus,” the statement added.
The damaged bus was later extracted from the tracks and towed to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) yard in Oshodi. LASEMA confirmed that the rail line has since been cleared and normal train operations restored.
The response operation involved officials of LASEMA from the Cappa Base, Oshodi, alongside officers of LASTMA.
