Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have uncovered and neutralised an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along the Damboa–Komala road and arrested two suspected Boko Haram logistics suppliers during separate operations in Borno State.
The development was confirmed in a statement on Saturday by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, who said the operations were conducted between December 17 and 19 under Operations Desert Sanity IV and V.
According to the statement, troops of 25 Brigade, while on a Main Supply Route patrol along the Damboa–Komala axis on December 17, discovered an IED buried along the road. The explosive device was promptly secured and safely detonated, preventing potential harm to troops and civilians using the route.
In a separate operation on December 19, troops acting on credible intelligence intercepted a Lagos-registered vehicle (AKD 244 YE) at a checkpoint along the Maiduguri–Bama Road. The vehicle was found conveying large quantities of food items and energy drinks suspected to be supplies meant for Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists operating around Kirawa Ward, Gwoza Local Government Area.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident. Items recovered included assorted food items, energy drinks, three mobile phones, an identity card, a ring, and cash in Naira and CFA francs. The suspects and recovered items have been handed over to military intelligence for further investigation.
Lt. Col. Uba said the military high command commended the troops for their professionalism and urged them to sustain the tempo of operations, reaffirming the armed forces’ commitment to dismantling terrorist logistics networks in the North East.
The latest arrests came less than 24 hours after troops intercepted two pick-up vans suspected to be conveying logistics supplies to Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in the state.
That operation, carried out following credible human intelligence, led to the recovery of numerous items, including 31 spare tyres, 23 rims, two bicycles, ignition key starters, alternators, foodstuffs, clothing, mobile phones, and cash of various denominations. The suspects involved were taken into military custody for further interrogation.
