Human Rights Non-Negotiable, Says Anambra First Lady on World Human Rights Day

The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, has said that protecting human rights remains essential to building a stronger, fairer society, insisting that dignity and equality must be upheld for every individual regardless of differences.

In a statement issued on Wednesday to mark the 2025 World Human Rights Day, she described human rights as “sacred” values that no one should be denied.

Soludo said the theme for this year’s commemoration — “Let’s stand for equality, freedom, and dignity for all” — reinforces the need for Nigerians to look beyond divisions of race, background, gender and beliefs.

“Every human deserves the right to live, to safety, to succeed and to thrive without fear,” she said. “Our everyday lives rely heavily on how we treat others. This uniqueness should unite us more than it divides us.”

She warned against a society driven by fear, alienation and extremism, stressing that all people — irrespective of creed, culture, politics or religion — deserve full human dignity and fairness.

Soludo, who continues to champion social harmony in Anambra State, had earlier in August urged women to promote peace, tolerance and moral responsibility during the International Day of Peace. She called on them to serve as agents of harmony in homes and communities amid rising social tension and youth vulnerability.
