The Senior Special Assistant on Media Research to Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, Phylo Odu, has accused local government chairmen of poor accountability and neglect of grassroots governance.
In a statement issued in Calabar on Monday, Odu alleged that council bosses fail to account for internally generated revenues, run their LGAs from afar, ignore dilapidated council headquarters, and promote relatives over qualified citizens. She also criticised them for receiving national “excellence awards” despite what she described as underperformance.
But the Executive Chairman of Yakurr LGA and state ALGON Chairman, Yibala Inyang, dismissed the claims as unfair and damaging. He insisted that chairmen have delivered projects—citing nearly 10 completed in Yakurr alone—and have renovated council facilities in line with the administration’s goals.
Inyang described Odu’s remarks as unverified
