Police in Borno State have helped a woman reclaim gold valued at N23.6 million, which she buried in the sands of Mallam Fatori while fleeing a Boko Haram assault 15 years ago.
Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso confirmed the recovery in a statement, noting that the woman, whose identity was withheld, returned to the community recently and sought assistance to locate the valuables she hid during the insurgency.

Daso said the Divisional Police Officer in Mallam Fatori and his team conducted the operation with precision, retrieving 22 carats of gold worth about N20 million, along with a gold bracelet and chain valued at N3.6 million.
State Commissioner of Police CP Naziru Abdulmajid praised the officers for their professionalism and reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. He urged residents to maintain cooperation with security agencies to strengthen public safety.
