Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has been re-elected for a second term as Governor of Anambra State, following a landslide victory in the November 8 governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), winner in all 21 local government areas of the state.
Announcing the results in the early hours of Sunday at INEC’s state headquarters in Awka, the Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Omoregie Edoba, said Soludo satisfied all legal requirements and polled the highest number of votes.
“I hereby declare that Soludo Chukwuma Charles of the APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Edoba stated.
According to INEC, Soludo garnered 422,664 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the APC, who scored 99,445 votes. Paul Chukwuma of the YPP came third with 37,753 votes, while George Moghalu of the LP and John Nwosu of the ADC secured 10,576 and 8,208 votes respectively. Jude Ezenwafor of the PDP polled 1,401 votes.
A total of sixteen candidates contested the election, including Echezona Oti (APM), Chioma Ifemeludike (AAC), Jeff Nweke (AA), Charles Onyeze (AP), Geoff Onyejegbu (NNPP), Chukwudubem Nweke (APP), Jerry Okeke (BP), Ndidi Olieh (NRM), Martin Ugwoji (ZLP), and Vincent Chukwurah (SDP).
The victory secures Soludo another four-year term in office, extending his tenure as Governor of Anambra State until 2030.
