Davido Named Chairman of Osun Sports Trust Fund

The Osun State Government has appointed Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund. The initiative is part of efforts to raise funds and drive the transformation of the state’s sports sector. The government expressed confidence that Davido’s global influence and passion for youth development will help attract both local and international investors to support sports growth in Osun State.

Reaffirming its commitment to sports infrastructure, the state government announced that renovation works at the Osogbo Township Stadium are progressing steadily. Upon completion, the facility will meet Olympic standards and serve as a world-class venue for both national and international sporting events. This, according to officials, aligns with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s vision of positioning Osun as a leading sports destination in Nigeria.

During a courtesy visit by members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports, revealed that the state is at an advanced stage of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission. The commission will act as a central body responsible for sports administration, policy formulation, and development initiatives to ensure consistency and sustainability in the sector.

Adewusi further explained that the introduction of the Sports Trust Fund will create opportunities for private and public partnerships to support sports financing.

He noted that Davido accepted the appointment without hesitation, expressing optimism that his involvement will significantly boost resource mobilization and bring lasting positive change to sports development across the state.
