BANDITRY: ZAMFARA ADC FAULTS GOVERNOR LAWAL OVER INSECURITY

The Zamfara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized Governor Dauda Lawal over his recent remarks on the insecurity bedeviling the state.

Governor Lawal recently lamented that the major obstacle to tackling the banditry is that security operatives in Zamfara still take instructions from Abuja rather than the state government.

Speaking with Gmartnews correspondent on Monday in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, the State Chairman of the ADC, Kabiru Garba, said the governor rode to power in 2023 using insecurity as his major campaign promise, and therefore has no excuse as the chief security officer of the state.

Garba noted that Governor Lawal was fully aware of the security challenges before making commitments to the electorate during his campaign.

“We heard the Governor the last time saying he has challenges, these are not excuses because he went to those villages during campaign promising them security.”

The party also challenged the Minister of State for Defence and former governor of Zamfara, Bello Matawalle, to use his current position at the federal level to support the state government in tackling banditry.

“The Minister of State for Defence is from Zamfara, we want him to come and support the state government to tackle this problem.”

The ADC chairman urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to “do the needful” in addressing Zamfara’s security crisis or resign, adding that the ADC is prepared to step in to provide solutions.
