Chaos erupted in the Mile 6 area of Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, after the abduction and murder of 17-year-old schoolgirl Habeebah Akinsanya.
The teenager, a student at Lisabi Grammar School in Abeokuta, was kidnapped last Friday. Her father, Akinsanya Aremu, a member of the So-Safe Corps, immediately reported the incident to the Kemta Police Station in Abeokuta.
Shortly after the abduction, the kidnappers contacted Aremu, demanding a ransom of N1 million for his daughter’s release. In a desperate bid to save her, Aremu complied and transferred the money to an Opay account provided by the kidnappers after they initially shared a UBA account.
Despite paying the ransom, Aremu’s worst fears were confirmed when he was directed to a location near Obasa, a few kilometers from the OGTV/Mile 6 area, only to discover that his daughter had been killed.
When Aremu arrived at the scene on Sunday morning, he discovered Habeebah’s lifeless body, mutilated and covered with soldier ants.
Further reports revealed that the kidnappers had brutally murdered the 17-year-old, inflicting multiple machete wounds in three places on her body.
In a shocking turn of events, the kidnappers contacted Aremu again on Sunday, demanding another ransom even after killing his daughter. Overwhelmed by the cruelty of the situation, Aremu reportedly protested, unable to comprehend the brutality of their actions.
Habeebah, who was set to enter SS3 and would have turned 17 in October, tragically lost her life just months before reaching this milestone.
The Commander of the So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the devastating news on Sunday. He stated,
“Yes, we are aware of the sad incident and we have launched our investigation.”
